With the current Alpha5 release, Nikfreak has been able to hammer out the ability to shoot 14 bit Raw and still take advantage of the 70D’s dual pixel CMOS autofocus system. This was largely due to MLs chief a1ex, who donated his 70D to the cause as a platform to develop on, fully with the knowledge it may brick his camera. This time, even though it’s only an early Alpha release, it’s the “ best autofocusing camera ever,” that gets the love.Īvailable in its Alpha phase since January, the Canon 70D version has steadily made headway as senior ML members like NikFreak have been debugging it and bringing more functions into the fold. Then, WHAM! We hear about a new camera that gets added to the mix. One of the things I love about the cinema rocket scientists over at Magic Lantern is that they work so stinkin’ quietly in the background, refining their firmware and opening it up to a wider range of Canon DSLRs, and with very little fanfare.
