I did have to reactivate my Eset on the new computer, although that is to be expected. Data is all there, pictures are all there, documentation and reports, all set. I have by now tested most of my commonly used software, starting with Word and Outlook, Turbotax for past 4 years, Matlab, Lightroom.
This software was born due to Microsofts. New computer asks to be restarted after the transfer, and once that is finished, lo and behold, it really does look just like the old one! Icons were not in the exact same order, but other than that, it was incredible. PCmover Express is a free data migration tool for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 10, provided by Microsoft and Laplink. My time out of those 8 hours: probably 10 minutes, the rest is automatic. I left it running overnight, so likely about 8 hours for approximately 440GB of data. The transfer was smooth, and not too long.
Not this time! I took a chance on Zinstall, despite its steep price, because of their promise of quality. Every time I switched, 2-3 days would be spent on copying, installing, rebuilding and looking for lost files, notes, passwords and accounts. Typically, I upgrade every 3-4 years, lately sticking to Lenovos.
I've been tinkering with computers ever since the OS/2 days, so I can confidently say that I have some experience, at least as a consumer (and a bit as a more advanced consumer).
